Message from the Pedagogical Director
“In our Kindergarten, each day is an invitation to discover, imagine, and learn. Through play and interaction with others, children explore the world, build knowledge, and develop skills that prepare them for future challenges.
With intentional pedagogy and attention to each child’s interests and needs, we provide experiences that stimulate thinking, creativity, and autonomy. We value each child’s pace and voice, helping them grow confident, curious, and joyful in the pleasure of learning.”
— Andreia Jardim, Pedagogical Director of Kindergarten

At Colégio do Vale, pre-school education is seen as an essential stage in the child's educational journey. The educational team plays an active role in building and managing the curriculum, promoting meaningful, cross-curricular and contextualised experiences, in accordance with the content areas set out in the Curriculum Guidelines.
Inspired by the Modern School Movement (MEM), we encourage the child’s active participation, valuing their voice, interests, and learning pace. Activities are designed to make sense of their discoveries, promote autonomy, and stimulate critical thinking.
We favour a close relationship with families and ensure a smooth transition to the 1st cycle, guaranteeing pedagogical and emotional continuity in the process of growth and learning.
Knowledge of the World is rooted in children's curiosity and their desire to understand how everything happens around them. Through observation, experimentation, and exploration of nature and the contexts that surround them, they discover the joy of learning and understanding, valuing and respecting the diversity that makes the world richer and full of meaning.

The child gradually discovers who they are and how they relate to others. By recognizing themselves as a learner and valuing themselves, they learn to share, cooperate, and show respect, building confidence, self-esteem, and a sense of citizenship. Between daily routines and lived experiences, every moment becomes an opportunity to learn to live together in a fair, supportive, and empathetic way.

- Visual Arts: In Visual Arts, the child explores colors, shapes, and textures, allowing imagination to guide every gesture and creation. By experimenting and producing, they learn to express what they feel and observe, reflecting on the world around them and discovering, in a playful and creative way, the endless possibilities of communicating through art.
- Motor Expression and Dance: Playing with the body and exploring space allows the child to discover rhythms, movements, and gestures that evoke emotions. By experimenting with different ways of moving, they learn to understand their own body, respect others', and turn every step, jump, or dance into a moment of expression, freedom, and discovery.
- Musical Expression: Through songs, rhythms, and rhymes, the child explores sounds and melodies, discovering different ways to express and communicate. By performing music and sound games, they learn to listen, create, and feel, recognizing music as part of their identity and traditions, turning every moment into a space of joy, discovery, and expression.
- Drama: Inventing and portraying characters and situations allows the child to explore their imagination and recreate everyday experiences. In Dramatic Play and Theatre, by experimenting with different ways of creating and appreciating performances and diverse practices, they learn to communicate, express feelings, articulate opinions, and understand others, discovering, between play and performance, the joy of creativity and sharing.

Exploring the body and movement allows the child to feel the energy, rhythm, and freedom of every gesture. Through games, challenges, and playful activities, they learn to understand their own body, respect others, and discover the joy of movement, building confidence, balance, and well-being in a fun and natural way.

By listening, speaking, and playing with words, the child discovers the power of language to communicate their thoughts and feelings. Gradually, they recognise sounds, words, and language structures, understand messages, and identify the conventions of writing. Through stories, conversations, and early writing attempts, they develop a love and motivation for reading, writing, and exploring the world of words.

Through counting, shapes, and measurements, the child discovers that mathematics is all around them. By organising, comparing, and representing what they observe, they learn to think, question, and find connections, developing reasoning skills and the joy of understanding the world through numbers and their many possibilities.

In Swimming at Colégio do Vale, the child discovers water as a space for exploration and learning. Through play and experimentation, they develop confidence and safety, improving balance, coordination, and body control in an environment that encourages movement and discovery.

Exploring the digital world allows the child to play, create, and discover. Through games, images, and experiences, they learn to communicate, experiment, and make sense of their surroundings in a playful and meaningful way.

In the Design The Future project, 5-year-old children explore the next school year, discovering what changes and what stays the same across different settings. Through games and activities, they become familiar with new routines, demonstrate skills, and overcome challenges, receiving support to ensure the transition happens with curiosity, confidence, and a sense of security.

Through stories, poems, and illustrated books, the child discovers characters, worlds, and emotions. By listening to, exploring, and sharing narratives, they develop a love of reading, enhance comprehension, and learn to appreciate different ways of storytelling and imagination, turning each story into an experience of discovery and enjoyment.

The child playfully discovers concepts such as sharing, cooperation, and responsibility. By exploring money, saving, and resource management, they learn to organize their choices and understand the value of each decision, turning every activity into a moment of practical and enjoyable learning.

Discovering the value of helping others allows the child to experience empathy and sharing. By taking part in various initiatives, they learn to cooperate, care for others, and feel part of a community where every action contributes to collective well-being.

In the Earth – The School’s Other Ground project, the child feels, observes, and explores the world around them, discovering colours, textures, sounds, and scents that spark curiosity. Each experience helps them grow in attention, creativity, autonomy, and problem-solving, while building a lively and sensitive connection with nature and learning to value their surroundings.
