Message from the Pedagogical Director
“The early years of life are full of discoveries, where every experience contributes significantly to a child’s development. In our Nursery, learning happens through curiosity and play, laying the foundations for growth, learning, and social interaction. At Colégio do Vale, we carefully accompany each stage with intention, creating experiences that stimulate imagination, autonomy, and confidence. We want every child to feel that this is a place where they can grow happy, safe, and respected, while gradually discovering the joy of learning.”
— Andreia Jardim, Pedagogical Director of the Nursery
Nursery(4 MONTHS TO 2 YEARS)
At Colégio do Vale, the Nursery curriculum is carefully developed and organized by the educator, aligned with the characteristics of the group of children, the educational environment, and the defined pedagogical intentions.
Inspired by the Modern School Movement (MEM), we promote meaningful experiences that respect each child’s pace, individuality, and basic needs. Through projects, activities, and intentional experiences, we ensure a harmonious developmental journey where learning is natural, engaging, and joyful.
- Pedagogy of Care: Caring for children’s nutrition, rest, and hygiene is part of our daily commitment to their well-being. Every moment is approached with attention and dedication, turning routines into opportunities for safety, comfort, and healthy development.
- Physical and Motor Skills: From the first months of life, it is through the body, the senses, and movement that babies and children explore and interact with the world. Regular physical activity is therefore an essential part of our daily routine, helping to develop coordination, autonomy, and confidence, always in a playful, healthy, and joyful way.
- Sense of Belonging: In every moment spent in a group, the child discovers the joy of feeling part of a community. By respecting themselves and others, they learn to value different perspectives and cultures, building relationships based on belonging, empathy, and respect.

- Awareness of Self and Others: We support each child in discovering who they are, becoming aware of their own characteristics, feelings, desires, and needs. To feel unique and understand the place they occupy in the world. Through relationships and play, they learn to form bonds, understand others, and grow with confidence and empathy, building their own identity.

- Knowledge of the World and Interaction: With every discovery, the child finds new ways to perceive the world and relate to it. Through play, exploration, and experimentation, they learn to observe, question, and understand, building knowledge with curiosity, joy, and purpose.
- Expression and Communication: Through play, speaking, drawing, or singing, the child discovers ways to share what they feel and think. By exploring different modes of expression, they learn to communicate, listen, and understand, turning every interaction into an experience of connection and discovery.
- Cultural Practices / Languages: Symbolic Over time, the child discovers the richness of the linguistic and cultural heritages around them. Participating in different practices and exploring their languages allows them to understand the world, express themselves, and interact in a creative and meaningful way.

- Baby Music (biweekly): Baby Music aims to stimulate the sensory, cognitive, and emotional development of the little ones through musical exploration. Biweekly, babies take part in playful and interactive sessions, where they experience different sounds, rhythms, and age-appropriate instruments.
- Yoga (biweekly): Through simple poses, gentle stretches, and breathing exercises, babies develop motor coordination, body awareness, and emotional balance. This space also promotes moments of calm and well-being, strengthening the connection between the child, their body, and the surrounding environment.

- Earth, the School’s Other Ground: Through outdoor activities, children discover plants, animals, and elements of nature, developing curiosity, observation skills, and respect for the environment. This direct contact with the woods also promotes motor skills, creativity, and well-being, allowing each child to learn in a playful and sensory way, in connection with the Earth.
